$880m Chinese-led Project Enough To Buy Saudi Silence?

KUALA LUMPUR: A $880m Chinese-led project is enough to buy Saudi Arabia’s silence? People are asking why Saudi Arabia is not condemning China over the abuse of the rights of Muslims in the red country?

Business and cash is king could be the answer.

Saudi Arabia and China laid the foundation stone for an almost US$1 billion project funded mainly by China.

The report from July 2 says the investment is for a factory to produce LED lighting lamps in the Blaskim area in Jubail 2.

Chairman of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, Abdullah Al-Saadan, laid the foundation stone.

The factory for China’s Shengkong International Company for Industry is expected to create more than 4,000 jobs.

This is a project involving China with Saudi Aramco, SABIC, Saudi Silk Road Company. China’s funds account for a larger share.

SABIC and Shengkong International signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to supply the project with the raw materials.

The Saudi Silk Road Company for Industrial Services and CPC Company will produce plastic materials for medical use.

The Uyghurs

China and Saudi Arabia are thus business buddies. What China does within its borders does not concern Saudi Arabia, it seems.

The Uyghurs are recognized as native to the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in Northwest China. They are considered to be one of China’s 55 officially recognized ethnic minorities. The Uyghurs are recognized by the Chinese government as a regional minority and the titular people of Xinjiang.

But China is imprisoning thousands of the Uyghurs to reform them and force them to submit to China’s secular beliefs.
