A Culture Of Peace, Justice And The Rule Of Law To Fight Terrorism

KUALA LUMPUR: A culture of peace, justice and the rule of law is needed to fight terrorism, says Saudi Arabia.

A surprise package landed in the United Nations on Monday. Saudi Arabia is condemning terrorism in all its forms.

It is a country that most of the world accuses of the rise of terror in the Islamic world.

To be fair to the accusers, it is probable Saudi Arabia did support groups that eventually diverted to acts of violence.

But the Saudi’s has some points in their favour. Name the groups that caused violence and has support from the Kingdom? There are not many.

In most cases, there are accusations. No evidence brought forward. None of these groups was ever captured or brought to trial.

The U.S. lamentably failed the entire world when it could not produce any evidence to prove that 911 was Saudi Arabia’s doing.

They also failed to prove that the terrorists were Saudi citizens or the captured members of the Al-Qaeda were pro-Saudi.

Al-Qaeda is fighting the Saudi regime, bombing holy sites when they can within Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia is also facing the full brunt of terror from pro-Iranian forces on its borders with Yemen.

Iran made missiles are landing on Saudi territory, some targeting the holy sites.

The interview of Al-Qaeda elements on Saudi television made it clear. They would raze the tomb of the Prophet or even the Kaaba if they had to, says Al-Qaeda prisoners.

These are not elements that show how Saudi Arabia is condoning terrorism or funding terror organisations worldwide.

PEACE!

The country’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan told the UN during the second UN High-Level Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies of Member States that they and international and regional organisations must come together to implement the UN’s Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.

The Minister says Saudi Arabia pays particular attention to the financing of terrorism.

The Kingdom has ratified several bilateral, regional and international agreements and stepped-up international legal cooperation in criminal matters related to terrorism and its financing.

For the Prince, Saudi Arabia and other countries are focused on capacity building, countering the use of the internet for terrorist purposes, raising awareness among youth, promoting tolerance and supporting the victims of terrorism.

The Prince, Bin Farhan, also underscores his country’s attachment to the promotion of a culture of peace and dialogue.

And he drove the point that condemning terrorism must also come with the condemnation of state terror.

No Minister would tell you such a thing if his country was a hotbed of terrorist funding.

“We have taken numerous countermeasures at the national, regional and international levels and upheld international law and relevant resolutions on prohibiting actions such as committing, financing, inciting and participating in terrorist acts.

“We have also complied with all resolutions and decisions of international counter-terrorism agencies.”

Now, who should we believe? The western media, those that have only one thing in mind: Disparage Muslim nations? Or the pro-Iranian propaganda?
