The watch group said the Honourable Minister did not declare gifts

The Anti Corruption Watch in Mauritius wrote to the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) to investigate Minister Devanand Rittoo for corruption.

The letter titled “RE-Corrupt Practices by Minister Rittoo and two Officials says the latter violated the law and the Mauritius Legislative Assembly ethics for his acceptance of free goods and his failure to report same as gifts.

The letter is dated 2011, a source told WFTV.

It also explains the definition of corruption, which it says goes beyond assessing whether someone technically violated a criminal law.

“It encompasses public officials who fail to act responsibly and ethically, and who instead place personal or special interests before those of the public.

“They abuse their position to benefit themselves, their families and associates.”

It also urges the ICAC to request the director to do the needful.
