Corbyn to return sovereignty of Chagos to Mauritius

The British Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn said he would ‘right the wrongs of history’ by granting sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius.

In the video, he says he understands the feelings of the Chagos Islanders who were displaced when Mauritius became independent.

In 1968, Mauritius gained its independence from Britain but the cost was the scission of the Islands of Chagos from the country.

The U.S. is leasing the Islands from the UK and they built a nuclear base on the illegally split territory.

The UK government under Boris Johnson refused to comply to a deadline set by the UN to return the territory to Mauritius.

The deadline expired on Friday last.

In defying the UN deadline to hand the archipelago to Mauritius, the UK has set the course for an international fight with the tiny Indian Ocean republic.

Protests took place outside the UK high commission in the Mauritian capital, Port Louis
