Did Mukhriz just call Anwar and friends liars?

Mukhriz Mahathir told Nikkei Asian Review there is no such thing as a written agreement between Anwar Ibrahim and his dad PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on a succession plan.

He denied such a plan and also denied there is a two-years dateline for Dr Mahathir to resign and to hand over power to Anwar.

Is he saying Anwar is lying on the Pakatan’s transition plans and the existence of a deal for Dr Mahathir to leave office soon?

If that is the case, it shows there is no coordination among Pakatan component parties, which is a pity.

The denial came with other comments such as “I’m not really ambitious, I don’t set myself a course that I must become a prime minister one day as some other people do.”

Does this mean Anwar is ambitious and has set himself on a course to become PM and it is not good?

Or did he mean it in a good way? Hard to say given the ad verbatim quote that came without a clarification in the interview with Nikkei Asian Review.

Mukhriz is usually a conservative politician, carrying out his duties and delivering or not in his role as Menteri Besar of Kedah.

He was formerly the deputy Minister of Trade and Industry in the Najib Razak government and left the post to take over the role of Menteri Besar of Kedah.

He was forced to leave or left the party after his dad quit the Umno once again and this time for good.

We feel that Mukhriz dealt a double blow to Anwar in the interview.

By saying there is no written deal or the idea of transition was only spoken about in passing and the top guns discussed nothing with seriousness is a sign there is something brewing at Pakatan Harapan leadership level.

Anwar and his friends and Dr Mahathir’s media adviser has said there is a deal, and it is written in stone that the PM will quit sooner than later and will hand over power to Anwar.

Nevertheless, he says there will be no concerted effort from his side to push himself to become the country’s prime minister after Anwar.

He also says he will remain open to ‘the idea of becoming PM if the opportunity arises.

The Kedah Menteri Besar is a businessman and is the deputy president of the Bersatu, the party of Dr Mahathir.
