The MMM, a main challenger in the Nov 7 elections, is drawing a huge crowd in Port Louis at the Municipality, with its orators delivering fiery and passionate speeches.

At 2.45 PM the crowd had reached above 10,000, reminiscent of the 2010 crowd the MMM gathered at this spot.

Speech of Paul Berenger

In the speeches, Reza Uteem, the president of the party reminded the people of the scandals both the MSM and the PTR has left behind.

He also reminded the crowd of the proliferation of drugs in Mauritius, adding that the PTR allowed Subutex pills to enter the country while the MSM tolerated synthetic drugs.

He also reminded the crowd of the struggle of the MMM, a 50 year history, that has marked the country’s politics.

He reminded the people of 1993 when Sir Aneerood Jugnauh revoked Paul Berenger as minister and a week later he was revoked as minister.

“You know why? Because when Paul and I are in government, they cannot rob Air Mauritius and other institutions, they cannot steal like they are doing now,” he said to the cheers of the crowd.

“We should put the destiny of the country in the hands of Paul Berenger to steer the country back to its glory,” he said.

He appealed to the electoral commission not to fall to corruption. He said on Nov 7, a day when students are in exams, and other difficulties the commission will face. But he said the commission and the agents of the party should not allow fraud to occur.

He warned there is a massive fraudulent attempt that is being planned and warned the commission not to fall into such entrapments!

“If the commission does not allow fraud, the MMM will win a massive victory. The north is in my hands and we are winning in the north. Paul Berenger will be the Prime Minister of Mauritius to save the country,” he said.
