Impeachment or political persecution in America?

The impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump look more like political persecution in America.

The Democrats are attacking Trump, and this is reminiscent of persecutions in the third world.

The only thing is in the third world; the Parliaments do not debate the persecutions.

It is the man on top who directs the police and the institutions to attack the opponents.

In America, the police are not involved. Unless the ‘impeached’ President does not leave the office.

APPROVAL RATING

Before we look into the persecution American style, let’s look at the approval ratings for Pres. Trump.

According to FiveThirtyEight’s presidential ‘approval’ tracker, 41.8 per cent of Americans approve Trump. Some 53.3 per cent disapprove, and this is fueling the impeachment attempt.

Pro-Trump news organisations are giving a different rating though.

They say the impeachment announcement by house speaker Nancy Pelosi has boosted Trump’s ratings.

“In recent days, his approval rating among American voters has risen to 52%. And it’s all because of the impeachment sham,” writes pjmedia.com.

Bloomberg, on the contrary, says Trump is at his lowest in ratings, citing ex-President Barack Obama as an example. It says Obama was more popular than Trump in the current months leading to the presidential elections.

This is important to understand the media’s role in the persecution process.

Let us also look at the number’s game. Unlike the third-world-nations, or even the UK and Europe, the US has a tricky political balance.

It has a Senate and a Congress, two houses that play a vital role in the workings of American democracy.

Business Insider says Trump could still be re-elected in 2020 even if Congress removes him from office.

PERCEPTION OR REALITY?

Now, this is an interesting perspective. However, in the number’s game, it is the perception strategy that counts.

We saw how some agencies are playing the perception game. Anti-Trump media is harping on the risks for the Republican party. They are saying the Republicans have more to lose if they keep supporting Trump.

This is normal in the US, unlike the third world where newspapers cover the dirt for the Ministers, for example. The news outlets will instead propagate the dirt on the opponents the regime wants to eliminate, politically.

In the US, the media suggests and invents theories that may become practical in time. That is why the likes of Bloomberg, CNBC or CNN are playing ‘fear factor’ or the feel-good factor.

In reality, removing Trump from power will depend on the Senate, not, on the Congress alone.

The Dems control the Congress. They will vote against Trump and for impeachment. This is natural. They cannot go against Pelosi the ironwoman who is fighting Trump.

If the Congress votes to impeach Trump on one or more articles of impeachment, they go to the US Senate.

The Senate will then hold a trial. Two-thirds of the Senate would have to vote to convict Trump to remove him from office.

This is where the Dems might lose big time. The Senate may never vote against their president.

Two previous US presidents – Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton – were impeached by the House. Even so, both were acquitted in the Senate.

PERSECUTION KEEPS DEMOCRACY ALIVE?

Losing does not mean the Democrats did not do their job. They did a ‘good’ job by all standards to showcase Trump as a malefactor.

It may hurt Trump in his attempt to seek re-election though. The party may revolt against him if his approval ratings are officially low.

Thus, the style of persecution is needed to keep a democracy like the one in the US afloat.

Otherwise, the Dems would look like the ones tolerating Trump and getting him to win easily in 2020.

We do hope this story has given you a good perspective on how true democracies work!
