Labour-PMSD alliance 80% done

The Labour Party (PTR) and the PMSD have almost sealed a deal in which both parties will campaign for a Labour victory in the upcoming by-elections.

The alliance is also being forged to prepare for the next general elections, which is expected soon while government party members are starting to quit in search for greener pastures.

The PTR, sources close to the deal told WorldfutureTV, has offered the PMSD the post of deputy PM to be held by leader Xavier-Luc Duval, while the alliance will be led by former PM Navin Ramgoolam.

In this scenario, the Labour will promote Shakeel Mohamed as the new VP in the alliance.

The lineup shows that both parties are concerned with the communal sentiments in the country, placing a Hindu as PM backed by a member of the General Population (commonly composed of the Christian minorities in Mauritius) and a Muslim.

According to the latest updates on the composition of the local population, the Hindus are 48.5%, the General Population 32% and the Muslims 17%. The remaining 3% are the Whites, Chinese and others.

By-election

On the other hand, following the Reform Party leader Roshi Bhadain’s resignation as MP 23 June, a by-election will be held at the constituency no 18 [Belle-Rose/Quatre-Bornes].

Our sources told us Bhadain’s move failed to garner support among the population, with many people showing their skepticism over the need for a by-election while the latter was cozy in Parliament.

“He has lost momentum and he failed in his gambit,” said the source.

The source also said PTR candidate Arvind Boollel should win the elections, since the party has concluded an informal alliance for tacit support from the PMSD.

However, the MMM too is said to be willing to get Boolell elected, despite the fact they may file a candidate for the by-election.

The names of Vijay Makhan et de Rita Jadoo are persistent within the ranks of the MMM.
