Supporters of the Bersatu party, the party of Mahathir Mohamad former PM of Malaysia and now leader of the opposition, has rallied behind the elderly statesman after the Kelantan palace revoked a title handed to the former PM years ago.

The title, the Darjah Kerabat Al-Yunusi (DK) title was gifted to Mahathir in 2002 by then Sultan Ismail Petra, who is the father of current ruler Sultan Muhammad V, who is also the present Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The award is said to be limited to 25 recipients at any given time and is usually reserved for royalty.

News of the revocation has spread over the internet like wildfire but it is the backlash against the palace that has gripped the supporters of Mahathir.

Facebook users are not holding bars against the palace or the Royals and are showing total support to Mahathir.

One comment in Malay said: Golongan bangsawan dalam negara kletokrasi ni semua tak berguna… Tunjuk la kat kita 1 je guna nya raja2 kat orang melayu…

It means: “The nobility in the country of kleptocracy is useless … Show us any of the Royals that are useful to our people…,”

Another one said: Dedak Grade AA or ‘corrupt grade AA”, or yet another one saying “Darjah Kelantan ??? What Kelassss !!!!!,” – what class do the Kelantan titles have?

The act by the Kelantanese royals also sparked calls for the end of the monarchy system, with people saying: Konon.payung negara…..harta negara sedang dirompak blh pulak buat2 xnmpk…elok hapus je sistem beraja.

Translated, it means: Supposed to be the protectors of the nation ….. state property is being robbed and they can make as if they do not see …. it’s better to remove the monarchy system.

The comments were still flowing at the time of writing. One Facebook user said: Outside Malaysia, Mahathir is well respected, but in the country they pull away the titles. Shameful!

Others attacked PM Najib Razak and his wife, saying it is all because of them, while some said no wonder in the past Tun Mahathir (as they call him) took away their powers.

“TUN M, it’s ok pingat (medals) all no use. Most important you have millions of Malaysians behind you. God Bless you always,” said one message.
