MAH SING’S EMPLOYEES RAISED RM54,000 WORTH OF NITRILE EXAMINATION GLOVES FOR FRONTLINERS

Kuala Lumpur, 2021 – The prolonged COVID-19 pandemic in the country has prompted 19 employees of Mah Sing Group Berhad (Mah Sing) to initiate and organise a nitrile examination glove and grocery donation drive in partnership with the Mah Sing Foundation (MSF). This is part of M’Power, Mah Sing’s volunteer platform’s proactive initiative, and an extension of the Group and Foundationcontinuous efforts in assisting the nation to combat the pandemic.

The RM54,000 raised was used to purchase nitrile examination gloves at a special rate sourced from Mah Sing Healthcare Sdn Bhd, as well as a variety of groceries for front-liners from 7 COVID-19 administering hospitals in Klang Valley; namely Hospital Selayang, Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Hospital Ampang, Hospital Sungai Buloh, Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM, Hospital Serdang, and Hospital Kajang.

Mah Sing’s Founder and Group Managing Director, Tan Sri’ Dato’ Sri Leong Hoy Kum said, “While the Company does what we can to help the nation to fight the pandemic, I am pleased to see our employees took the initiative to contribute as well. It is truly the Company’s pride to have such compassionate and hard-working employees who contributed their time, expertise and funds to this initiative. Mah Sing strongly supports the altruistic culture and urges other employees to mirror this group’s selfless action.”

Mah Sing Foundation’s Chairman, Dato’ Indera Syed Norulzaman Syed Kamarulzaman said, “It is a privilege for an organisation to have such dedicated employees involved in making a positive change to the community. Mah Sing’svolunteers always bring lots of energy and enthusiasm – you can tell that promoting positive social impact is part of their corporate culture. We hope to see this joined effort continue every year, not only during Mah Sing’s annual company-wideCorporate Responsibility Day, but also various programmes under MSF.”

Dato’ Indera Syed also added, “Although the global pandemic brought some challenges to volunteering, I am pleased to see that these M’Power members have persevered through. It is truly incredible that they managed to achieve almost 10 timesabove their initial targeted donation amount, and I am so proud of their efforts.”

The donation effort was led and conducted by 19 Mah Sing employees from the Kuala Lumpur headquarters, as well as the Northern and Southern offices, in collaboration with MSF. Over the course of a two-month planning period, these M’Power members logged a total of 724 volunteer hours, with an estimated impact of at least 21,000 healthcare workers in the receptive hospitals.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic struck the country in 2020, Mah Sing, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Leong Hoy Kum, and MSF have donated nearly RM4.6 million to various organisations, government agencies, and hospitals, including heavy-duty critical-care ventilators, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), face masks, and patient monitoring equipment, and aided front-line responders through these uncertain times.
