Azmin, Anwar's blue-eyed boy, backstabs?

Azmin Ali, the Minister of Economic Affairs who is not a popular figure in the country since you do not see anyone demonstrating in his favour in the gay-sex video scandal, is happy with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s son.

He told Malaysiakini in a winker when he was ‘directly’ asked whether he agreed there was no two-year deadline for Dr Mahathir to hand over reins to Anwar.

One wonders why the question was not framed differently? May be the Malaysiakini reporter could have asked: “Is there a two year deadline for Dr Mahathir to hand over power to Anwar?”

Perhaps the response would have been a little different. Azmin might have answered with a big ‘NO’.

He seems to have said ‘agree’ just like a student would agree with the lessons given by a professor or lecturer.

“There was no agreement that it has to be two years.

“There may have been suggestions like that, but nothing was stated on paper or in a verbal agreement,” Mukhriz said to Nikkei Asian Review.

Mukhriz in the interview says the general consensus in Pakatan Harapan is that Mahathir should be allowed the time to fix the nation’s economic woes before passing the baton.

One wonders how much time Dr Mahathir needs to fix something that is not – to be honest – really broken to the core.

It needs a little corrections and the future PM who is a former Finance Minister with a better record than Najib or Abdullah Badawi, would do the rest.

Azmin, sitting in the Economic Affairs ministry is cut-off from realities, say sources who spoke to The Independent Malaysia.

They say he has no clue what is happening around him and is taking orders from a Menara. We will get this story soon.

Nevertheless, they say Azmin is still dreaming to become the next PM with banners calling for Dr Mahathir to abandon Anwar Ibrahim and to nominate Azmin as PM no 8.

“A long shot and a dreamer,” says the source who is close to the Dr Mahathir circle.

Azmin is facing backlash over a gay-sex video (which we will dissect soon) and has refused to quit or to go on gardening leave.

This make a lot of people wonder whether there is any difference between the Barisan Nasional and the Pakatan Harapan?
