Modi's regime and Israeli spies hacked WhatsApp voice message function?
In a move to show its integrity and to dispel potential backlash against the platform, WhatsApp us suing the Israeli surveillance firm NSO Group.
It is accusing it of helping government spies break into the phones of roughly 1,400 users across four continents.
The hacking spree targets included diplomats, political dissidents, journalists and senior government officials.
Of course, NSO denied the allegations, but what is done is done and users of WhatsApp should be concerned with their security and privacy nonetheless.
To recap, the lawsuit filed in federal court in San Francisco, WhatsApp accused NSO of facilitating ‘governments’ hacking their citizens in 20 countries.
The hacking spree targeted 100 civil society members.
Nevertheless, Indian academics and lawyers have accused Narendra Modi’s government of hacking into their phones.
They discovered their WhatsApp accounts had been targeted earlier this year.
The University of Toronto’s Citizen Lab, which tracks digital surveillance, is tracking the 1,400 telephone numbers across the globe, believing a commercial Israeli spyware targeted them in May.
