Muhyiddin agreed to peanuts from Goldman?

In a media statement, the Pakatan Harapan says it do not agree with the 1MDB settlement between the government headed by PM Muhyiddin Yassin and Goldman Sachs.

The statement says the amount agreed upon by the government is far below the claims made by the PH government, that is USD7.5 billion.

International banking firm Goldman Sachs has agreed to pay only US$3.9 billion (RM16.63 billion) as settlement for its role in the 1MDB scandal.

While the PH says the process to retrieve the money from Goldman only started after it won power in 2018, it says the process should continue.

The PH also urges the government to bring to justice the culprits behind the heist of the century, including the individual named as Malaysian Official 1 by the Department of Justice in the U.S.

Goldman agreed to return US$2.5 billion (RM10.66 billion) in cash and a promise to eventually handover US$1.4 billion (RM5.97 billion) in assets that will have to be recovered from abroad.

According to PH, the settlement between Goldman and the government is sufficient evidence there was crime related to 1MDB contrary to assertions by some that it is a hoax.

1MDB engaged Goldman Sachs to raise US$6.5 billion (RM27.72 billion) between 2009 and 2014 and in August last year, Malaysian prosecutors filed 17 criminal charges against Goldman Sachs.
