NATO relieved Russia's bomb codenamed 'Skyfall' failed
Codenamed ‘Skyfall’, a bomb built by five scientists in Russia exploded, killing them and it must be a relief to NATO.
The bomb, Russian President Vladimir Putin says, is ‘the most advanced and unmatched technical’ weaponry.”
‘We are talking about the most advanced and unmatched technical ideas and solutions,’ he says.
The bomb exploded on August 8 while the five employees of Russia’s nuclear company, Rosatom were testing a nuclear rocket propulsion system at the Nyonoska testing site in the White Sea.
The blast caused a brief radiation spike in the nearby city of Severodvinsk.
‘The fact of possessing such unique technologies is today the most important reliable guarantee of peace on the planet. And no matter what, we will certainly improve this weapon,’ Putin says.
NATO is concerned that Russia is building such a bomb called Burevestnik and it is also called a cruise ‘Doomsday’ missile.
THE DOOMSDAY MISSILE OR SKYFALL
The Doomsday Missile is a nuclear-powered cruise missile. Conventional cruise missiles can carry a limited amount of fuel, restricting their range.
The Doomsday Missile is driven by a nuclear reactor and would be able to fly almost indefinitely and with unlimited range.
A missile like this could fly for days or weeks to sneak up on its targets, from the other side of the world if necessary.
The Russians have actually taken over from the Americans in the design of such a monstrous enterprise.
In the days of the Cold War, the U.S. had the ‘Project Pluto’ and it was burnt after it spewed contaminants (radioactive material) while flying.
Since U.S. President Donald Trump pulled down the arms control agreements between them, Russia has been active.
And it is building this weapon of mass destruction that the world could do without.
TWO MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT
According to the Doomsday Clock, the world is now two minutes to midnight. Midnight here means the end of the world.
In 2017, the world was two and a half minutes away. We lost half a minute since then.
In 2017, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, moved the time of the Doomsday Clock a half-minute closer to midnight.
It said this was in part because of reckless approaches toward nuclear weapons and a growing disregard for the expertise needed to address today’s biggest challenges, most importantly climate change.
“We argued that world leaders not only failed to deal adequately with nuclear and climate threats, (but they also) increased them.”
This was done through a variety of ‘provocative statements and actions, including careless rhetoric about the use of nuclear weapons and the wanton defiance of scientific truths.”
“Two years later, it has become even clearer that “the intentional corruption of the information ecosystem” threatens to undermine the rational discourse needed to address such challenges.”
