No Halal Subway in Singapore becomes a twitter battle

The Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) recently confirmed that the Subway restaurants in Singapore are interested in serving Halal fast-food. But the move did not please some.

A Twitter user stated that those who want Subway to remain non-Halal should start a “Please Don’t Go Halal” petition as there is a lacking of non-halal fast food in Singapore.

Another netizen then responded by saying that there are many non-halal restaurants in Singapore and Muslims aren’t complaining, while when it’s vice versa when it comes to Halal restaurants?

Another responded by saying if more people were to enjoy food from Subway in Singapore, wouldn’t that be better for everyone?

The netizen who tweeted the “Please Don’t Go Halal” for Subway replied ‘no’ to that question, because there are not enough non-halal fast food restaurants in Singapore and proceeded on saying: ‘I want my pork’.

The long-running battle between the need to go halal or stay non-halal has always been a big issue in some countries.

In 2014, Subway removed ham and bacon from almost 200 outlets in the UK and switched to halal meat alternatives in an attempt to please its Muslim customers.

In the same year, a white man or Ang Moh commented in Singapore that Muslims should go up to the border with Malaysia to enjoy their halal Subway.

During that year, Subway decided not to go halal.
