Pakistan frees woman but protesters want her dead!

Pakistan freed a woman accused of blasphemy. But protesters are throwing shoes at pictures of the newly minted Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Many say they want her dead. According to them, blasphemy should be punished by death. It appears PM Khan has opened a can of worms.

Some are asking whether ignoring her case and leaving her in jail would have been a better move.

However, Khan insists this is a new Pakistan. He probably believe the country has to move on from medieval beliefs.

Thousands of protesters – called Islamists by western media – are on the streets. They brought Pakistan to a standstill.

Rickshaw burning, cars and lorries smashing and burning. Welcome to Pakistan,

Their grudge: The acquittal of a Christian woman who spent eight years on death row on false charges of blasphemy.

The release of Asia Bibi is a small step towards a more open Pakistan says some. But the protesters do not agree.

Khan is threatening a fierce government response if protesters will not disperse.

But protesters says they will sacrifice their lives for a noble cause.

They call Khan’s stance on the issue ‘rubbish’.

Aasiya Noreen born in 1971 is better known as Asia Bibi. She is of Catholic faith. She got into trouble after adamantly criticised Muslim women who did not want her to drink in their cups.

Reports say Asia Bibi’s comments landed her in trouble.

“I believe in my religion and in Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for the sins of mankind. What did your Prophet Mohammed ever do to save mankind?”
