PAS compares Pakatan to 'a dog afraid of its own shadow'

PAS secretary general was defending a meeting of his leader Abdul Hadi Awang with PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He says PH members who are not happy with the meeting are like ‘a dog afraid of its own shadow’.

This was the statement from PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan. He said it in reply to PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution.

Saifuddin rejects talks suggesting the Islamists will join Pakatan as a component party.

The PKR sec-gen says the Harapan coalition was stable and did not need the PAS.

But the PAS sec-gen retorted saying Harapan is unstable and there is crisis among its components.

Does this means the PAS can join the PH to bring stability? Or will it help break the PH to create a ‘stable’ coalition?

Neither Dr Mahathir nor the PAS leaders revealed what was the course of their conversation.

However, when pressed by the media, Dr Mahathir said he is at liberty to work with anyone.

Pakatan Harapan leaders showed concerns after a photograph of Dr M meeting with Hadi at his residence.

The photograph confirms rumours of regular meetings between Dr Mahathir and opposition leaders.

The regular meet includes the cousin of ex-PM Najib Razak and former Defence Minister Hishamuddin Hussein.

Hishamuddin has attempted to bring the Umno to join the Bersatu or join the Pakatan Harapan under a new party.

This attempt failed to materialise after the Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi declared the party will not join the PH.

He rejected the idea of a backdoor coup against other PH parties.

He also said the Umno is confident it will win the next general elections.
