Qatar sent 5000 armed men to help overthrow Qaddafi

In the tussle between Qatar and the rest of the GCC nations, we believe Qatar was involved in the overthrow of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

In 2012, we published an article sourced from diplomatic correspondents in Embassies in Kuala Lumpur, that detailed the presence of 5000 Qatari soldiers on Libyan soil.

In that case, the rebels fighting in Libya (most of whom were former Libyans who were living in Europe and elsewhere), were helped not only by the illegal Nato bombings and Nato mercenaries (mostly from France) on the field, but also by the large Qatari armed forces on the ground.

A group that was fighting against the ISIS forces on the ground called The Libyan Liberation Front had – in 2012 – captured a Qatari army head.

They also captured a leader of the pro-Qatari armed forces  – a Libyan ‘Emir’, a chief of the rebels against Gaddafi and hanged him in Tripoli.  That was the same day the Qatari armed forces head leading the operations in Libya was captured.

Besides the armed men, Qatar had also sent (according to various news reports in 2012) some members of its ‘special forces’ to join hands with the French, US, and British-German special forces on the ground.

Responsible for supporting the rebels, the troops from Doha were first deployed at Tobruk and then to the west in the Jebel Nefoussa, where the chief of Staff of Qatar, Hamad bin Ali General al-Attyiah was based.

In comparison, France had only a few dozen commandos from the Special Forces.

“The Qataris arrived with suitcases full of money, which allowed them to bribe to tribes,” adds the source.

The emirate of Qatar has played a significant role in the fall of the Gaddafi regime, which led to the country falling into the hands of various extremist forces claiming to be Islamic, including the terrorising ISIS that culled the pro-Gaddafi population and innocent civilians in Syrte after the fall of the Gaddafi bastion.

Photos beheaded men – suspected of working for the Gaddafi regime – were published all over the internet and on ISIS websites.
