Sheraton move is Mahathir move to stop Anwar

Senator Muhammad Zahid Md Arip, while denying he is not the mastermind of the Sheraton Move, says the move was to stop Anwar Ibrahim from becoming PM.

He says the move was also to remove the DAP from power.

However, he mentioned the name of the Prime Minister number 7, that is Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, as the happiest man from the success of the ‘Sheraton’ move.

He also insists he is not the mastermind of the move though it appears, through his statement at the Dewan Negara yesterday, that he knew a lot about the ‘move’.

He also speculated that Dr Mahathir’s dilemma in the entire saga is that he cannot express his joy publicly.

The February political coup ousted the PH from power and pushed Dr Mahathir into the opposition after he resigned as PM.

The Senator was debating the royal address at the Dewan Negara when he made the statement.

“Mahathir must be the happiest man but he cannot express that happiness.

“He did not want Anwar to replace him (as prime minister). He also wanted to stop DAP.

“Both have been achieved successfully,” said Zahid

The latter was appointed as a senator after the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government came into power.

SHERATON MOVE

Zahid also ‘corrected’ what he calls allegation made against him that he was behind the infamous “Sheraton Move”.

“I wish to correct the allegation made against me. I was not the mastermind of the Sheraton Move.

“But I admit I was part of the move, with a few others, to block Anwar and DAP, with the blessing of the seventh prime minister (Mahathir),” he said.

In February, Mahathir resigned as PM and lost support of the Bersatu which pulled out of the PH government.

PH lost further ground in Parliament when some MPs from the PKR joined Muhyiddin Yassin (who later become Prime Minister) in pulling out from the Pakatan coalition.

Muhyiddin became prime minister on March 1.
