The Star plays opposition to family members in Pakatan's upcoming cabinet

The Star newspaper, a massively pro-Najib, pro-Barisan Nasional newspaper is perhaps taking over as the next opposition mainstream newspaper in Malaysia.

It is already questioning whether the Tun Mahathir’s cabinet should have more than one family members as ministers.

In a report today on what to expect on the much-anticipated Cabinet lineup, it said:

“An interesting point is that some of those expected to be made ministers comprise “father/mother-son/daughter” teams.

“With Dr Mahathir already helming the Government and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as his deputy, the question now is whether it is appropriate to have Mukhriz and Nurul Izzah, as well as appointing both father and son – Kit Siang and Guan Eng – into the team.

“Analysts also said the public was anticipating Dr Mahathir to name personalities such as DAP’s Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng, Tony Pua and Hannah Yeoh; PKR’s Nurul Izzah Anwar, Dr Xavier Jeyakumar; Amanah’s Mohamad Sabu and Salahuddin Ayub as well as Pribumi’s Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir and Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman in his Cabinet team,” said the paper.

Later on, it said analysts also said it should not be an issue.

Under the BN-led government, father-son, cousin-brother ministers were rampant and the newspaper did not raise the issue.

The paper also failed to question the role played by questionable figures during the Najib Razak reign. Now it will start doing so under a ‘people’s government’?

Now that the people have spoken massively and the candidates elected and have the same legitimate rights to be ministers, The Star is stirring a little storm in a tea-cup.

In January, The Star published a supposed Pakatan Cabinet lineup with Azmin Ali as the PM.

It also said Mahathir did not want Anwar as PM.
