This is how Mahathir is still trying to block Anwar

Mahathir Mohamad is eyeing the Prime Minister’s post once again, perhaps hoping he can lead the country during the APEC meeting.

But the timing is not right as he does not command a majority in the Parliament in Malaysia to get an audience with the king.

Seeing that Anwar Ibrahim, the official opposition leader, is the new PM hopeful Mahathir has changed his mind.

He made a 360 degrees u-turn on his earlier decision not to contest in the next general elections. That is he will abandon his Langkawi seat to someone else.

And it was also thought he would leave the new party, Pejuang to his son Mukhriz Mahathir.

But his sudden change of thought about not contesting puts things on the burner in Pejuang. It also restarts the infighting in the Pakatan Harapan where the Democratic Action Party is still hoping for a return of Mahathir.

The DAP also has a new PM hopeful that it is backing, and it is the defeated Chief Minister of Sabah.

FURTHER DIVIDE

After failing to garner a majority in February following his resignation as PM, Mahathir abandoned the Pakatan Harapan.

He did not turn out for a meeting of leaders of the PH after Muhyiddin Yassin was nominated PM. This led the PH and Anwar to believe he had severed ties with them.

What made things worst in the relationship between Anwar and Mahathir is the latter attacked Anwar in a discussion among his party members.

That was right after the fall of the PH and the formation of the new government in Putrajaya. Mahathir made harsh comments against Anwar on an open microphone in what was supposed to be a private meeting.
