Upcoming Event on January 13, 2020

WorldFuture will organize an event, a mini-seminar, on the situation in the South China Sea on January 13, 2020.

The event will be held in Kuala Lumpur, with several speakers making their points about the negotiations for a Code of Conduct in the disputed seas.

Below is a media release on the seminar:

Seminar on South China Sea dispute and the need for a code of conduct

How much of the CoC should be a tool for peace and security for the Asean? This will be the theme of discussion in an event to be held on January 13 in Kuala Lumpur.

The event organised by the World Future Organisation will see the intervention of several local speakers, professors and experts on the South China Sea or the Asean region.

However, the organisers have also invited Professor Emeritus Carl Thayer from the University of New South Wales in Australia to deliver one of the keynote speeches.

The half-day event is scheduled to take place at the Eastin Hotel in Petaling Jaya.

The main points of discussions will be the respect of international laws, and the formulation of a CoC for all parties to agree on the future of the SCS and of the Asean’s relations with Beijing.

The militarization of the SCS by China and foreign powers will be looked at and whether the formulation of the CoC will address that.

The event will also feature speeches on the current status in the SCS, the PCA ruling and the divide and rule strategy in the SCS conflict.

The aim is to inform the Malaysian public of the real issues in the SCS, an update on the CoC and the role the Asean needs to play as a united group to ensure peace in the region.
