Users are saying the PAS will deny these as ‘fitnah’ or blasphemy.

However, it is for the PAS to provide explanations on these investments.

Petron is not only a petrol company. It a parent company of San Miguel Corporation, beverages maker with various alcoholic drinks in its stable.

The opposition in Malaysia says Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s son has shares in Petron Malaysia after Petron’s appointment as a supplier to the government.

The Star, Straits Times of Singapore and many other publications quickly relayed fears of the Pakatan Harapan government for allowing a form of nepotism.

The papers said Mirzan has been a director of the Filipino-based company since 2010.

Reportedly, he was elected a director on Aug 13, 2010 and holds 1,000 shares.

However, Petron Malaysia rebutted the claims that Mirzan owned shares in the company.

It said Mirzan Mahathir does not own any shares in Petron Malaysia nor does he have any role in the company.

But San Miguel Corp, clarified that Mirzan was a board member of its parent company, Petron Corp of the Philippines.

Prior to the directorship in Petron Corp, Mirzan was a director of San Miguel Corp for a brief period from Sept 1, 2009 until April 15, 2010.

“He currently holds 5,000 San Miguel shares,” said the company.

But the company tried to justify the 5000 shares as minimal and necessary for someone to become a board member.

So is he holding alcohol-linked shares? The debate is still on…
