A massive number of people against Malaysia emergency rule

A massive number of people and the opposition in Malaysia are up in arms against expected declaration of a state of emergency.

But for sure, the new Malaysian government is quickly learning the impact of social media and the force of the public.

There is an outcry all over the internet against the government’s plan to impose emergency. The outcry is not only from the people, the opposition but also from various experts in law and the constitution.

See below the reaction from a Malaysian citizen on Twitter:

I have a honest question to all front liners, with what’s happening now to Malaysia, would it be okay if we #ProtesDarurat on the streets with our mask on and max social distancing ?
.
Pass me your thoughts, because at the end of the day. You’re our heroes, not the government! https://t.co/l7HySdjnUc

This is only example. There thousands of such messages of frustrated young people who are angered by the emergency plans.

The authorities, we are told, had to cancel a presser last night. The PM Muhyiddin Yassin was ready to address the nation, apparently but it had to be put on hold.

Citing reports, Malay Mail says Putrajaya is seeking a dubious so-called state of “partial emergency”.

As for The Star, it says officials in Putrajaya calls it a ‘political emergency’ with a cancellation of all political activities, the suspension of the Parliament and no elections to be held.

The Prime Minister was expected to announce the emergency last night, but he failed to do so. In response to this, Malaysians flooded Twitter with such messages:

OK. Harap no declaration any other night also. Pandangan peribadi. https://t.co/7jmJ1QsJVb
