Beware those who oppose Emergency for self-serving interests, warns Hadi - The Star Online

PETALING JAYA: There are some who oppose the state of emergency out of self-interest and to protect their own political agenda, claims PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang (pic).
He said that while religious extremists exist, often overlooked are “political extremists” who forget about the value of human life in order to achieve their political agenda.
“In Malaysia, there are groups who are openly against the declaration of state of emergency as a result of the pandemic. It is as if they are not on this earth, which is currently fighting against the pandemic,” said the Marang MP in a Facebook post on Monday (April 26).
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong declared a state of emergency from Jan 11 to Aug 1,2021 for the nation to deal with the rise in Covid-19 cases.
Abdul Hadi’s remarks came after the Umno supreme council called on the Perikatan Nasional government to allow Parliament to sit during the state of emergency.
He also hit out at the group, claiming that they were making political moves and disregarding the risk posed by the disease that has killed millions of people around the world.
“They have gone too far in politicking to the point of drowning and submerging the economy and safety, which is just a temporary refuge for all the greed in politics,” he said.
“Although economic and safety are cited as factors of their excuse, it is just a ploy for their extreme political passion,” said Abdul Hadi, without naming anyone.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan on Sunday (April 25) said that Parliament and state assemblies could reconvene and special standard operating procedures could be put in place to allow for such sittings.
