Blow to China, Vietnam says no to Huawei
Vietnam wants to be the first Asean nation to provide a 5G network but they will do it without China’s tech powerhouse Huawei Technologies Inc.
Viettel Group, Chief Executive Officer Le Dang Dung said, “We are not going to work with Huawei right now.”
He also said it’s a bit sensitive with Huawei now and it’s not safe to use Huawei, citing some reports.
Viettel os Vietnam’s largest mobile carrier owned by the Defense Ministry.

The company will deploy Ericsson AB’s equipment in Hanoi and Nokia Oyj’s technology in Ho Chi Minh City.
It is the suspicion many governments have on Huawei and China’s technology that brought the company to abandon Huawei.
Australia, New Zealand and the United States have many questions on the use of Chinese technology.
They say Huawei allows the Chinese to spy on Western nations. China defended Huawei saying it is ridiculous to believe in such talks.
But the arrest of the Huawei CFO in Canada in December last year has made it difficult for the Chinese company to get rid of the ‘spying’ motives.
