'Civil servants' at wild hotel party believed to be cops - Free Malaysia Today

The four civil servants who were arrested along with 28 other people at a hotel here are believed to be policemen, with one of them an inspector in the integrity and compliance standards department.

KUALA LUMPUR: Three police officers and a constable are believed to be among 32 people detained early yesterday on suspicion of being involved in a “wild party” at a hotel in Jalan Pinang here.

Sources said one of the officers, an inspector, is with the Bukit Aman’s Department of Integrity and Compliance Standards.

The other two are a deputy superintendent, attached to the Selangor police headquarters and another inspector who is with the narcotics division in Penang. The constable is stationed in Jinjang.

It is believed one of them organised the party that included eight foreigners and 18 women, aged between 20 and 50.

No offending items were apparently recovered in the 2am raid.

Dang Wangi police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah had said in a statement yesterday that four civil servants were detained in the raid.

Reservations for the rooms were made by the organiser of the party at rates of about RM500 and RM700 per night, he said.

Mohamad Zainal said police have opened an investigation paper for the case of the “civil servants” and foreigners, while 20 locals were issued compound fines of RM2,000 each.

The case has raised questions about how the hotel management allowed bookings of the rooms for a big group during the total lockdown – all hotels are closed, except for quarantine purposes – and whether Covid-19 protocols were observed.

It is not known what action will be taken against the hotel whose general manager declined comment.

FMT has reached out to Kuala Lumpur police chief Azmi Abu Kassim and Mohamad Zainal for comments.
