Cops track down lorry packed with 48 Covid-19 positive workers in Kedah - The Star Online

PETALING JAYA: Forty-eight workers packed into a lorry in Kedah who were Covid-19 positive have been detained by the police and the vehicle seized, reported Sinar Harian.

According to Sinar Harian, Kuala Muda district police chief Asst Comm Adzli Abu Shah said the driver, including all foreign workers, were detained after a 19-second video and pictures of the incident went viral on social media.

ACP Adzli said they received information about the video at 5pm on Sunday (June 13) and instructed several police petrol cars to track the lorry.

“We managed to detect the lorry carrying 48 workers from a chicken processing factory near Sungai Lalang, Bedong.

“All the workers were wearing pink bracelets and were Covid-19 positive,” he said.

Sinar Harian reported that further investigation revealed the 48 were among 135 factory workers who tested positive for the virus from the Dah Bukit Makmur cluster.

ACP Adzli added that all the workers have been ordered to go through checks at the Kuala Muda health department after positive cases were detected in the factory.

He also said that the lorry driver has been summoned for committing an offence under Section 23(2) Road Transport Act 1987 for using a Motor Vehicle License for other purposes.

“The factory management will also be investigated under Section 22(b) Act 342. The investigation will also be made under Section 270 of the Penal Code,” he said.
