PETALING JAYA: Covid-19 deaths have reached a new high, with 126 fatalities recorded on Wednesday (June 2), says the Health director-general.

Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that of the 126 deaths recorded, 29 were from Selangor alone.

Kuala Lumpur recorded the second highest death rate, with 18 cases. Eleven deaths were recorded in Johor while Kedah saw 10 fatalities.

According to the breakdown of fatalities listed by the ministry, most had comorbidities.

However, of the 126 listed deaths, 21 showed no prior illnesses.

The ministry said 22 new clusters were identified, of which 11 were workplace clusters.

These clusters were found in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Johor, Kelantan, Negri Sembilan, Perak and Penang.

Seven community clusters were identified in Johor, Sarawak, Penang, Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Kedah and Perak.

The ministry also recorded a new cluster at the Kemayan Immigration Depot, with 40 cases recorded so far.

Dr Noor Hisham expressed his concern on the rise of infections among children below the age of five.

“The ministry hopes that all information by us on this issue will make all parties, especially parents and guardians, aware of Covid-19 infection among children.

“All parties, especially parents, are urged to prioritise the safety and health of their children as they are still growing and their immune system is still developing.

“This group is also not yet eligible for Covid-19 vaccine,” he said.
