Dell Technologies continues to drive positive social impact in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Dell Technologies is committed to driving real change in Malaysia, with a key focus on using its talent, expertise, global reach and technology capabilities to create a positive social impact. The year 2021 marks an important milestone for the Women’s Centre for Change (WCC) as Dell Technologies presented its Progress Made Real grant to WCC for the second consecutive year to aid WCC’s efforts in supporting and empowering women, children, families and communities. 

Established in 1985, WCC is a non-profit organisation dedicated to creating an inclusive society free from gender violence and discrimination and empowering women through education and advocacy. 

Beneficiaries of the new grant is expected to exceed WCC’s target of close to 110,000 women, young adults and local communities – all who stand to benefit from the various WCC initiatives focused on cultivating a more digitally inclusive society, including programmes on digital literacy, life skills and entrepreneurship.

In 2020, WCC received its first Dell Technologies Progress Made Real grant which was utilised to digitally transform the organisation, enabling it to expand its reach and impact nationwide. As a result, WCC reached a total of nearly 350,000 beneficiaries, far surpassing its initial target of 50,000+ beneficiaries.

Present at the virtual cheque presentation ceremony were the President of Pertubuhan Wanita Mutiara Pulau Pinang, Yang Amat Berbahagia Tan Lean Kee; WCC President Susan Siew; WCC Programme Director Karen Lai; and senior management and participants from Dell Technologies Malaysia and WCC.

The month of November also saw Dell Technologies host the Dell Women’s Entrepreneur Network (DWEN) Malaysia Summit. Through DWEN, Dell Technologies is connecting women entrepreneurs around the globe to networks, knowledge and insights that give them the power to do more. 

The DWEN Malaysia Summit featured women leaders and entrepreneurs from various industries as guest speakers, including from Intel Corporation, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC), DeliverEat.my and Mom’s Village Asia.

“I am immensely proud of how far we have come in our efforts to empower women and support our local communities in Malaysia. WCC is one of the nearly 60 non-profit partners that Dell Technologies works with in more than a dozen countries worldwide and combined, we have helped 2.6 million people gain better access to technology and 21st-century skills. With WCC, we are part of an ecosystem committed to delivering equitable access to tools, skills and resources needed to drive change and create opportunities for underserved communities in Malaysia,” said Teoh Ean Na, Director and General Manager, Medium Business, Malaysia and Singapore, Dell Technologies and Women in Action Malaysia Chapter Lead.

“Through DWEN, we are spotlighting entrepreneurial success, failures and lessons learned in a supportive and unique forum so the community of like-minded women in Malaysia can grow their businesses and their vision through the power of technology, expansion of their personal networks and access to capital,” Teoh added.

Dell Technologies has taken its social impact efforts a giant step forward through its Progress Made Real 2030 plan, which outlines the company’s goals over this decade, including:

  • Helping 1,000 non-profits around the world digitally transform by 2030 to better meet the needs of their communities
  • Achieve 50% of the global workforce and 40% of global leaders who identify as women by 2030
  • Source 75% of electricity from renewable sources across all Dell Technologies facilities by 2030 (100% by 2040) and a goal of reaching net-zero GHG emissions by 2050. In June 2021, Dell Technologies implemented its largest on-site solar panel installation globally at the Dell Technologies Asia Pacific Customer Centre (APCC2) in Bukit Mertajam, Penang.The installation will power more than 25% of the production lines at the 24-hour facility, and is expected to reduce the facility’s annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by about 650 metric tonnes
