DNA Confirms Death of Ukrainian Tourist Following Brutal Bali Kidnapping

DENPASAR – Indonesian authorities have officially confirmed that mutilated human remains discovered at a Bali river estuary are a DNA match for Igor Komarov, the 28-year-old Ukrainian tourist kidnapped in a violent abduction last month. The discovery brings a tragic conclusion to a weeks-long search that gripped the island and drew international scrutiny toward the operations of transnational criminal networks.
Komarov was reportedly abducted on February 15 in Jimbaran while traveling with his girlfriend, social media influencer Yeva Mishalova. CCTV and witness reports indicated that a group of men ambushed the pair, forcing Komarov into a vehicle while his companion escaped to alert the police.

In the footage, the victim displayed visible signs of torture, including missing limbs and severe bruising, while claiming that the kidnapping was linked to a stolen sum of money. Bali police investigators later tracked GPS data from a rented vehicle to a villa in Tabanan, where forensic teams recovered bloodstains confirmed to be Komarov’s.
Bali Police Senior Commissioner Ariasandy confirmed that DNA samples from the body parts, including bone fragments and teeth, matched those provided by Komarov's mother. While police have arrested one foreign national, identified by the initials "CH," who allegedly rented the getaway car using a fake passport, the search for six other foreign suspects—identified as RM, BK, AS, VN, SM, and DH—remains a top priority. Authorities believe several suspects have already fled the island, prompting the issuance of international Interpol Red Notices.
While police continue to investigate the underlying motive, the brutality of the act and the nature of the ransom demands have led officials to probe potential links between the victim and Eastern European crime syndicates. The investigation remains active as authorities work to locate the remaining suspects.
