Don't use audience with King to push for PM post, Khairuddin tells Anwar - Free Malaysia Today

PETALING JAYA: The audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong should not be used as a means to lobby for the prime minister’s post, Pejuang’s Khairuddin Abu Hassan has told opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.
Ahead of the audience that political party leaders are set to have with the King over the next two days, Pejuang’s federal territories chief advised the PKR president not to talk about “statutory sworn statements” or majority support for the post of prime minister.
“Do not use this audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as a platform to lobby to become the prime minister,” Khairuddin said in a statement today.
“Please don’t be too obsessed with becoming the prime minister. Anwar Ibrahim should focus on the lives of the people and work together towards rebuilding the future prosperity of the country.
“All parties should take this opportunity to find the best formula to fight the Covid-19 pandemic and rebuild the country’s deteriorating economy.”
It was reported that the King would be granting an audience with several political party leaders to discuss the end of the Emergency as well as the reopening of Parliament.
According to DAP organising secretary Loke Siew Fook, party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng is set for an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong this afternoon.
Pejuang information chief Ulya Aqamah Husamuddin has also confirmed that Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be called for an audience with the King tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin entered the palace this morning for his weekly audience, ahead of the Cabinet meeting every Wednesday.
