First Muslim World Probe To Enter Mars!
On Monday, the United Arab Emirates’ “Hope” probe successfully entered Mars’ orbit, making history as the Arab-Muslim world’s first interplanetary mission.
The probe is designed to reveal the secrets of Martian weather.
“To the people of the UAE, to the Arab and Muslim nations, we announce the successful arrival to Mars’ orbit. Praise be to God,” Omran Sharaf, the mission’s project manager told the media.
The Chair of UAE Space Agency: “I am over Mars at the moment.”
Hope is the first of three spacecraft to arrive at the Red Planet this month after China and the US but for the UAE, this is a great mission.
Besides its scientific purpose, the mission is also intended to serve as an inspiration for the region’s youth.
With this probe, the United Arab Emirates becomes the fifth nation to ever reach Mars.
The successful arriving in Martian orbit puts the UAE into the space race though, for scientists, it is a new era for space exploration.
The UAE mission was one of three that launched to Mars from Earth in July after NASA’s Perseverance rover and China’s Tianwen-1 mission.
Only the US, India, the former Soviet Union and the European Space Agency have successfully reached the Red Planet in the past.
