KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign minister Hishammuddin Hussein is undergoing quarantine as a close contact of a Covid-19 patient and will not attend the Special Asean-China Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Chongqing, China, tomorrow as well as make his working visits to Egypt, Kuwait and Qatar.
Wisma Putra said today that Hishammuddin has been deemed a close contact by the health ministry to a person found positive after a Covid-19 PCR test.
“Although the foreign minister has undergone two PCR tests which have been found negative, under guidelines prescribed by MoH, (he) is required to undergo compulsory quarantine and self-isolation,” it said in a statement.
It said Hishammuddin will be represented by his deputy, Kamarudin Jaffar, as the head of Malaysia’s delegation to the Chongqing meeting.
The minister’s working visits to Egypt, Kuwait and Qatar will be rescheduled pending consultations with their governments, the ministry said.
