I'm sorry for flouting SOPs in Langkawi, says Dr M - Free Malaysia Today

PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has apologised for breaching Covid-19 SOPs at a programme in his constituency, Langkawi.
In a statement, Mahathir explained that he flew to Langkawi on May 8 to take part in several donation programmes in conjunction with Ramadan and Hari Raya.
Among these was a visit to the residents at Surau Tsunami Batu Arang in Kuala Teriang.
“I was informed that at the event, I had breached the SOPs by not having my temperature checked before entering the surau,” he said in a statement.
“This is an offence. This incident should not have happened. I apologise for not complying with the SOPs.”
Following this, Mahathir said he would accept action being taken against him in accordance with the law.
He stressed that Covid-19 was a virus that did not discriminate, adding that everyone, regardless of who they were, must comply with the SOPs to curb the spread of the virus.
“We must not take it lightly. Once again, I apologise for breaking this rule.”
Mahathir’s transgression had been highlighted by another former prime minister Najib Razak in a Facebook posting last night.
