MAHATHIR, ANWAR OUT! Says NGO

A group of some 300 protesters at Dataran Merdeka want Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s cabinet to quit. They also want the Parliament to dissolve within the next 100 days.

Rallying at Dataran Merdeka yesterday, they had 10 demands.

“Our gathering today doesn’t involve leaders or political parties,” NGO Sedar Rakyat deputy chairperson Chandra Bose Malaysiakini reports.

The demonstrators suggest the cabinet is corrupt, is rigged with scandals and needs replacement.

“Once the cabinet resigns, its replacement should be free from moral, corruption or criminal scandals.”

The group also demand reforms at the MACC, Election Commission and the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

They say it should start with the resignation of each respective bodies’ chief for “constantly courting negative perception.”

Spokesperson Nazrin Norani says people were tired of seeing the same personalities—including Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya.

“We want fresh blood,” he says.

The rise of racism, the rise of the cost of living and the lack of a realistic action plan for youths and unequal distribution of parliamentary allocations are also among their demands.

“When I was in Form 4, Mahathir and Anwar were fighting. Now my child is in Form 4 and these two are still there,” he says.

He adds that he did not care whether the country was led by Harapan or the current opposition.
