The Malaysian equation: The lesser known devil

In the Malaysian equation, ahead of the polls on May 9, it appears that for many PM Najib Razak is better than former PM Mahathir Mohamad.

The reason a majority of Malaysians are still reeling behind the Barisan Nasional (BN) of Mr Najib is simple: He is the PM, he must be right.

This is how Malaysians have been reasoning for decades, incapacitated in their thoughts that a PM can be confronted.

“Najib is the leader and God has made it possible for him to be there.”

“Mahathir is no more PM. He should stick to retirement.”

Or “I am not sure lah about Mahathir, but Najib is the devil I know.”

Based on these, one can say the BN has already won a larger share of the Malay votes – since God has Najib in power.

The Indians sees the PM as the powerful personality and they tend to follow the man on top, says an observer to WFTV.

But the Chinese are more cunning. They know the ‘devil’, and that could be the reason they won’t vote for him.

This is Malaysian thinking in a nutshell.

But there is more to it.

As far as we can see, a large number of Malaysians want ‘change’.

But the voting power is not in their hands, for it is in that of the majority community in the country.

And the element of God’s will is thriving among them.

Will they vote for Najib? If they don’t they fear they would have committed an error which will be tough to erase.

To sin in Islam is a big thing. It is part of the Malaysian equation in politics too.

Don’t be surprised the BN goes on winning then.
