Maybank Foundation: Pahang Princess Azizah visits Cambodian silk weaving training centre

Princess Azizah and her 16-member delegation, who were on a three-day visit to Cambodia, watched a presentation by the Maybank Women Eco-Weavers programme at the centre.

The programme is a charitable initiative by the Maybank Foundation, driven in partnership with the bank’s local units and partners.

The foundation is recognised by Asean and endorsed by the Asean Foundation.

Qazreen Chan Abdullah, head of corporate affairs and communications at Maybank Cambodia, said that as a regional bank, Maybank appreciates the traditions and heritage across Southeast Asia, including the struggles women face to preserve the ancient art of textile weaving, said Khmer Times.

Princess Azizah expressed admiration for the foundation’s work in Takeo, which has created business opportunities for underprivileged women, in addition to specific skills training.

She also made a point to visit silk weaving and handicrafts centres in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, before she and her delegation departed to Laos.
