MCA: Reconvening Parliament an important step in unifying nation to fight pandemic - The Star Online

PETALING JAYA: The MCA is ready for Parliament to reconvene to discuss anti-pandemic measures.

Its secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon said in a statement on Friday (June 18) that this was an important step in “returning politics to the rakyat”.

“MCA stresses that more than ever, the government, the opposition, and the rakyat now need to unite and focus on defeating the pandemic and revitalising the economy.

“All administrative and legislative procedures must comply with the framework of the Federal Constitution and relevant laws,” he said.

He added that MCA fully respects the statement released by Istana Negara on June 16, in which Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Mustafa Billah Shah called for Parliament to be reconvened as soon as possible.

“The statement fully reflects His Majesty’s care and concern for the wellbeing of the rakyat, and the importance of a parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarchy,” he said.
