Tensions within the Melaka Unity Government have escalated following remarks by UMNO Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, who challenged the Democratic Action Party (DAP) to withdraw from the state administration led by Barisan Nasional (BN).

Allex Seah, the DAP-appointed State Executive Councillor for Entrepreneur Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs, and Kesidang assemblyman, responded by stating his readiness to resign immediately if BN or UMNO decides to dissolve the unity government.

“I am always committed, together with all agencies under the portfolio of the State Exco for Entrepreneur Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs,”

“All decisions will follow the party’s decision. Today is the Melaka DAP Convention; let it be discussed tomorrow with the party’s top leadership,” he said in a Facebook post.

Allex emphasized his ongoing commitment to the unity government's formation in 2023, when Pakatan Harapan was invited by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh to join the state administration.

He highlighted his dedication to serving the people of Melaka and prioritizing political stability for the state's future development.

Dr Akmal, also the Merlimau assemblyman, issued the challenge during a UMNO Youth convention yesterday, during which he also urged Umno to consider withdrawing from the unity government to protect Malay and Islamic interests.

The fresh exchange stems from broader frictions between UMNO Youth and DAP elements, including past disputes over provocative actions and calls to sever ties.

The two parties had a major fallout after the Penang DAP Youth and Dr Akmal confronted each other during a protest outside a hardware shop in Kepala Batas, Penang.

The protest was prompted by a viral video of the shop owner displaying the Malaysian flag, Jalur Gemilang, upside down.
