Vowing no ministerial post, Nurul Izzah to solidify a dynasty in PKR
"There is no team Nurul Izzah or team Rafizi Ramli, only team president. “Even Anwar did not know his daughter would be contesting."

PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, speaking after filing her candidacy for deputy president, urged party leaders to stay connected with grassroots members, especially while in government. Addressing 500 northern region PKR members in Perai, she emphasized continuing the Reformasi movement, not chasing power. Nurul Izzah, who joined PKR at 18, aims to uplift women and gig workers.
PKR Youth chief Adam Adli supported her, dismissing nepotism claims by highlighting her sacrifices, including her 2015 arrest. Her speech responded to grassroots concerns about inaccessible leaders raised by deputy information chief R Ramanan.
Quotes:
“We must listen, we must stay close to them. Not just when we are in hardship, but also when we are the government.”
“She’s not just a leader’s daughter. She’s been in jail, she’s inspired many of us, and she’s earned her place,” claim some.
Defending Dynasty Rule
PKR deputy information chief R Ramanan highlighted grassroots frustration with top leaders who became “inaccessible” after gaining power, urging them to stay grounded.
Speaking at a Perai grassroots meeting, he dismissed factionalism claims, insisting all members support party president Anwar Ibrahim. Ramanan refuted nepotism allegations against Nurul Izzah’s deputy presidency candidacy, noting 90% grassroots backing.
“There is no team Nurul Izzah or team Rafizi Ramli, only team president,” he said. “Even Anwar did not know his daughter would be contesting,” he added, emphasizing the strong divisional support (201 of 220) for Nurul Izzah’s bid.
We would like to believe that there is no 'teams' or divisions in PKR but social media posts by netizens show a stark demarcation between the PKR grassroots that is pro-Nurul Izzah against voters who are against her candidature.
