More roadblocks to spring up in Selangor to curb movements - The Star Online

PETALING JAYA: More roadblocks will be set up in Selangor as the state gears up for the movement control order in six districts from Thursday (May 6).

State police chief Comm Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said the increase throughout the state is meant to stop unauthorised interstate and interdistrict movements, especially in the lead up to the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays.

“We will also be patrolling all bazaars, shopping centres and public places to ensure standard operating procedure compliance in Selangor,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (May 5).

He said the six districts that are under the latest MCO are Petaling, Gombak, Hulu Langat, Klang, Sepang, and Kuala Langat.

“Kuala Selangor, Sabak Bernam and Hulu Selangor will be placed under conditional MCO.

“The public should comply with the SOP and exercise self-discipline. Let’s curb the spread of Covid-19 together,” he said.

On Tuesday, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the MCO will be implemented in six Selangor districts from May 6-17, while interstate and inter-district travel (between districts under MCO) will not be allowed.

In a press conference on Tuesday, he said economic activities are still allowed, while social activities are not permitted.

“Restaurants, food trucks, hawkers and kiosks are allowed to operate from 6am to midnight only.

“Sundry shops and convenience stores as well as pharmacies will be allowed to operate from 6am to 10pm.

“Petrol stations will be allowed to operate from 6am to 10pm, except those on the expressways, which can operate for 24 hours.

“Hospitals, clinics and medical labs will operate as usual.

“Daily markets, farmer markets, public markets and weekend markets will be allowed to operate from 6am to 2pm, ” said Ismail Sabri, who added that more details on the SOP will be available on the National Security Council website at www.mkn.gov.my.
