PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is committed to establishing minimum Internet connectivity of 75% as recommended by the UN, with broadband costs not exceeding 2% of monthly GDP per capita, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Prime Minister said the rise in Internet usage in the country proved that Internet access was a basic necessity.

He was speaking at the launch of the Jaringan Prihatin initiative on Wednesday (May 5).

In his speech, Muhyiddin also said that the provision of 5G infrastructure in the country through private investments estimated at RM15bil via Digital Nasional Bhd would be expedited.

He added that RM21bil had been allocated under Jendela to upgrade broadband services nationwide and increase the quality of 4G network coverage by 2022.
