New sustainability collaboration between Petronas-Honeywell

KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 — PETRONAS has entered into a collaboration with Honeywell on the development of carbon-neutral energy solutions in process technologies, industrial automation, and plant digitalisation of PETRONAS’ operations.

The collaboration aims to strengthen operations optimisation and support emissions reduction efforts to deliver cleaner energy solutions, in support of the companies’ common sustainability goals and in line with PETRONAS’ Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050 (NZCE 2050) aspiration.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two companies was signed here on 22 March on the sidelines of the Offshore Technology Conference Asia 2022 (OTC Asia 2022).

PETRONAS was represented by its Head of Group Technical Solutions, Project Delivery & Technology Badrul Hisham Ibrahim and Honeywell by its Vice President/General Manager of Industrial Innovation, Honeywell Connected Enterprise, Ravikrishnan Srinivasan.

The signing was witnessed by PETRONAS Senior Vice President of Project Delivery & Technology, Bacho Pilong and Honeywell President of ASEAN, Norman Gilsdorf.

Bacho says, “This partnership will be a catalyst for PETRONAS’ growth agenda. We believe it will inspire more collaborations among major industry and technology players to collectively deliver a carbon-neutral future through a flourishing ecosystem of innovation – where solutions can be delivered at pace to counter the many challenges we face.”

Strategy on sustainability

Commenting on the partnership, Gilsdorf says, “We greatly value the long-standing relationship between the two companies and Honeywell is looking forward to collaborating with and assisting PETRONAS in accelerating its strategy on sustainability, digitalisation and productivity.

“The solutions will support PETRONAS in achieving the highest standards of accuracy, reliability, profitability, and security. We are proud to collaborate with PETRONAS in integrating digitalisation and sustainability to the next level,” he adds.

The sustainable solutions to be embraced include Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCS) technology, Digital Twin, and Remote Autonomous Operations, in achieving productivity excellence and strategic growth in a low-carbon manner.

The collaboration marks one of the first of its kind in harmonising processes and business analytics into an integrated, cutting-edge technology and 5G-enabled secured asset operations for PETRONAS.

It also supports PETRONAS’ pursuits in the key areas of cybersecurity as well as leadership and capability management.
