No Ramadan bazaars in Selangor's MCO areas from Saturday - Free Malaysia Today

SHAH ALAM: No Ramadan bazaars will be allowed in the six areas subject to the movement control order (MCO) in Selangor from Saturday, says menteri besar Amirudin Shari.

However, houses of worship and kindergartens will remain open for now.

Kindergartens will stay open so parents can go to work, says Amirudin Shari.

The decision to close the bazaars comes after six districts in Selangor were placed under MCO starting tomorrow. The bazaars will be allowed to operate for two days even during the MCO.

At a press conference, Amirudin explained that closing the bazaars, two days after the MCO is enforced and four days before Hari Raya celebrations, took into account the interests of traders.

“By Saturday, they would have been trading for 25 days. It won’t be too cruel if we close the bazaars then.”

On the decision to keep houses of worship open, Amirudin said the state was following the guidelines set by the national unity ministry.

“For kindergartens, we are allowing them to remain open for now so that working parents can continue to go to work.

“But from time to time, if we receive instructions (to close them), we will follow, but for now, we will allow it,” he said.
