Non-contact sports and recreational activities now allowed in MCO areas - The Star Online

PETALING JAYA: Sports and recreational activities like jogging, cycling and exercising will now be allowed in MCO areas.

In a statement on Friday, the Youth and Sports Ministry said the National Security Council (NSC) met on Friday (May 7) to look into its appeal to revise the sports and recreation sector SOP during the MCO from May 7-20.

It said sports and recreational activities without physical contact such as jogging, cycling and exercising were allowed in open areas, subject to the SOP.

This includes physical distancing of at least 1.5m and conducted in neighbourhoods within the same district.

It added that other allowances for sports and recreation sectors will be refined in the next NSC technical meeting.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican extended his gratitude to NSC members, especially the Prime Minister, for looking into the ministry’s proposal.

He also called for the people to continue performing fitness activities safely during the MCO period.
