Now, is 1MDB criminal case in Singapore hearsay?

Recently, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he will shout ‘help’ if he needed help from Singapore in the 1MDB investigation.

Prior to that, the Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong said Singapore was ready to assist Malaysia in the investigation on 1MDB.

Mahathir also said Lee has indicated that the city state will be helpful in the 1MDB probe.

“He [has] said he will be helpful. If there is a need for me to ask him for help (on 1MDB), I will shout help,” Mahathir said.

And with the recent happenings in Malaysia over the 1MDB scandal, the question is whether the 1MDB cases in Singapore are still hearsay?

The ex-Malaysian PM Najib Razak and his deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamidi – ahead of the elections in Malaysia – had said the 1MDB’s criminal case in Singapore was hearsay!

Hence, both wanted the records of proceedings presented in the criminal trial involving Yeo Jiawei by the prosecution in a case against Najib and Zahid to be dropped.

But if the Singapore proceedings are allowed in the case against them, both leaders risk being called unfit to be in the Parliament. Because they will be accused of misleading the public.

In the case against Najib and Hamidi, the plaintiff, Khairuddin Abu Hassan is objecting to the applications by the two top Malaysian leaders to scrap the records of proceedings from Singapore.

Khairuddin, a former Umno member sacked from the ruling party of Najib, is pressing charges over the RM2.6 billion found in the Malaysian PM’s account.

Najib and Zahid said in their defence the Singapore proceedings could not be admitted in the case.

Last year, the High Court allowed Khairuddin to include the documents in support of his action against Najib and Zahid.
