SHAH ALAM: Permatang Pasir state assemblyman Faiz Fadzil today pleaded not guilty in the magistrates’ court to outraging the modesty of a woman three months ago.
Faiz, who is also an Amanah central committee member, is accused of committing the offence on the 31-year-old woman between 9.45pm and 11.30pm on March 8.
The incident is said to have happened when the accused and the woman were in a car travelling from Sunway Pyramid shopping mall to Subang Jaya.
The offence under Section 354 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to 10 years, a fine and whipping.
Magistrate Mohamad Redza Azhar Rezali imposed a bail of RM10,000 and set a condition that the accused does not harass prosecution witnesses.
Redza fixed mention on Aug 6 for prosecution to hand over documents in preparation of Faiz’s defence.
Deputy public prosecutors Zahida Zakaria and Nur Aishah Ahmad Zakiuddin appeared for the prosecution.
Faiz, who is also a lawyer, was represented by Abdul Aziz Hamzah, Surya Putra Mohamed Taulan, Hairulallias Shaari and Ahmad Faiq Azizan.
Faiz had earlier denied allegations that he sexually assaulted the woman and said he was considering suing the complainant to clear his name.
According to Subang Jaya police chief Abd Khalid Othman, the assemblyman allegedly tried to caress the woman’s hands and hold her by the shoulder.
