Perak top cop: Random checks on toll paid to deter unapproved interstate travel - The Star Online

IPOH: To prevent people entering the state without proper documentation during the inter-state travel ban, police will check the amount paid at toll plazas, says Perak’s top cop.
State police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid (pic) said this was one of the strategies to check if drivers were telling the truth or lying to make their way into the state, especially with Hari Raya approaching next week.
He said some drivers would make excuses that they were travelling inter-district from nearby towns when they were actually coming from another state.
“It is impossible for us to stop and check every vehicle, because doing so will cause a traffic jam on the expressway, so I am asking everyone to cooperate and do their part,” said Mior Faridalathrash.
“So we will use our discretion when stopping vehicles and asking drivers for their travel permit,” he added.
He also issued a warning to drivers who think they can cheat the system by exiting onto a district toll plaza before coming back onto the expressway.
“Let me assure these drivers that we have our ways to find things out, ” he told reporters attending the Perak police monthly gathering at the Air Force Training Institute here Friday (May 7).
He said everyone should play their role, and be responsible, and not simply cross borders without valid reasons.
“If we do that, the chances are that the number of Covid-19 cases can reduce, but if we continue to move freely, then this pandemic is going to last even longer,” said Mior Faridalathrash.
“Hari Raya is approaching, and those within districts, must ensure that they follow the required standard operating procedure at all times, and not take matters lightly, ” he added.
Mior Faridalathrash added that the Perak police contingent received 3,000 applications daily for inter-state travel.
“We also reject between 70 and 100 applications daily, as the reasons provided were not valid, ” he added.
