Police to call up Azmin Ali over alleged breach of Raya SOP - The Star Online

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and his family members will be called up to assist investigations for allegedly breaching Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Fadzil Ali said a police report was lodged on Friday (May 14) in connection with a viral social media posting by a Facebook user, who alleged that family members of Azmin, who is International Trade and Industry Minister, had crossed district borders and attended a gathering to celebrate Hari Raya.
“A photo of Azmin’s family members gathering in Hari Raya attire was attached to the Facebook post, which went viral on Friday and has since drawn negative reactions on social media.
“We are investigating under Section 269 of the Penal Code and for alleged breach of SOP.
“Initial investigations revealed that the incident occurred on May 13 at Azmin’s official residence in Putrajaya.
“The photo was also taken when his family members were doing video conferencing with immediate family members,” he said in a statement on Saturday (May 15).
Personnel on duty at the residence’s guard post also revealed there was no movement of guests in or out of the residence on that day, he added.
“We will record the statement of witnesses and refer the investigation paper (IP) to the Deputy Public Prosecutor as soon as possible.
“We urge the public not to post comments or statements that harm the credibility and image of an individual or an organisation,” he added.
